Our curriculum at Telford Infant School provides children with exciting learning opportunities and goes beyond statutory requirements. We use a topic based approach which is creative, inspiring and memorable. Our curriculum also has a positive impact on children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
Our curriculum intent
Please clear here to read our whole school curriculum intent including 30 things to do whilst at our school.
Teachers are continually assessing the children as they talk to them and mark their learning in books, to find out what they know and what they need to learn next.
At the end of each term the children are assessed against what has been taught in the national curriculum across all subject areas.
Below – following a differentiated curriculum to meet personal learning needs (Pre Key Stage standards)
Growing development – beginning to develop understanding and can apply skills with support
Working towards – consolidating understanding and can apply skills with increasing independence
Expected standard – secure understanding and can apply skills independently
Greater depth – deep understanding and can apply skills independently across all areas of the curriculum
This is shared with you at the Autumn term learning reviews and in the end of year pupil report.
Year One children also take the statutory phonics screening check in June. This is to check that they have learned phonic decoding to an age appropriate standard. Please read the parent leaflet below for further information.
At the start of each half term, teachers provide parents with a Curriculum Overview. Curriculum Overviews outline in a little more detail the teaching and learning that will be happening in Year One during the coming half term. These are added to our website as they become available.
