This week has been a busy one in school with lots of fun and interesting learning happening across all year groups. We showed prospective parents for September 2026 around our fantastic school and the behaviour and learning demonstrated by all children was truely amazing. Lots of children were confident enough to speak to our visitors and tell them why Telford Infant School is the best! I am a very proud headteacher.
100 book challenge
We are very excited about our 100 book challenge which I launched in an assembly with year 1 and 2 children this week. Your child will have brought a 100 book list booklet home (reception will get them soon) which is their record to tick off books as they read them (or have them read to them). There will be some books they can already tick off as they will already have read them previously. In assembly I read Too Much Stuff by Emily Gravett, so they can tick that one off straight away.
Reading is a vital skill that unlocks learning across all subjects. As a school we are passionate about creating a reading ethos that means every child (and adult) develops a love of reading - whether that is reading a book alone, with someone else or being read to. The 100 book challenge has been developed to encourage the children to read 100 quality books by the time they leave our school.
We understand that current year 1 only have 2 years to do this in, and year 2 only have this year, but we are encouraging them to complete as many as possible.
We have copies of all 100 books in our school library, so there is no need for parents/carers to buy books, however, I am sure you will already have some of the more famous titles at home. The 100 book challenge would also be a great way to introduce your child to your local library and borrow books from there.
Every child that completes the 100 book challenge will be recognised in assembly and get a special certificate.
Collection of children
Safeguarding your children is our number one priority. We know the end of the day collection from the playground is a busy time and we have a number of measures in place to ensure children are collected safely and swiftly. To help us with this please ensure that you move forward towards the external classroom door when you are able so that staff can see you. The adult dismissing will wave at you and look for an acknowledgement, before they will dismiss your child. If your child is being collected by someone who is not on the collection list, please ensure you have told the class teacher or office that this will be happening. We will not dismiss children to someone else (even if we know them) unless you have notified us or they are on the collection list you have provided. Children cannot be collected by anyone under the age of 18.
Parent Governor elections
We are delighted that a number of parents have expressed an interest in becoming a parent governor. This means we will be holding parent governor elections. A separate communication will be sent via email to all parents on Monday - and there will be a paper ballot slip in book bags - so please look out for this. Voting will close at 10am on Friday 3rd October.
Parking
This week Warwickshire traffic enforcement officers have been around before and after school to monitor compliance and raise awareness about the importance of safe and legal parking near schools. It has been great to see that everyone is respecting the parking and stopping restrictions around our school - thank you for helping keep our children and community safe.
Data Collection
Year 1 and 2 parents please look in your child's book bag for a data collection sheet. It is important that you amend and return this to us if any of the details are incorrect. Reception parents - we have only just taken your details but if they do change at any point, please let the school office know.
Please remember to check our calendar regulary. We have Spoz visiting on Poetry day -see the flyer sent via email if you would like to order a copy of his poems.
