Head's message

Well we have had a very exciting week, here in school with Celebration of Learning, a firefighter visit with 2 engines, a visit from a former England football player and our first person to complete the 100 book challenge!

Our regular Celebration of Learning event was very well attended, and as I popped into each class, I could see how proud the children were to show you their learning.  Thank you for attending and sharing this positive experience.

Firefighters - Year 1 were very well looked after with 8 fire fighters and 2 engines attending school to help year 1 understand about the importance of fire safety.  We are thankful to the crew for helping us teach this important message to our children.  Why not speak to your child tonight to find out what they have learned and make sure you have a planned escape route in your home should you need it.

100 Book challenge - I am so excited and proud to announce that Sulayman in Year 2 is the first pupil to complete the 100 book challenge.   Huge congratulations!   Sulayman has received a very special certificate, bookmark and his photo on the wall of reading fame in the hall.   I wonder who will be next? Keep reading everyone!

As part of the reception topic this half term 'When I Grow Up' on Thursday everyone was very excited to welcome Ben Foster, a former professional football player for England.  Ben spent time talking to the children about the skills he needed and the determination to be a professional player.

Warwickshire Waste Partnership

Ruth from Warwickshire waste partnership has spent time in school this week delivering a whole school assembly to help the children understand the importance of looking after the environment through recycling and reducing waste in the first place.  A parent newsletter has been included in your email, please take the time to read this.

Socks

Please return any socks that your child may have borrowed from school, as we have none left!   Socks are one of our most popular needed spare clothes items as children often get wet feet (for various reasons).  If you have any old socks sizes 8 - 12 they would be very much appreciated (and they can be any colour, pattern or design when used as spare socks).

Diary dates

Next Tuesday is our joint event with the junior school on Smart Phone Free childhood.  Given the announcement today by the government on the use of mobiles in school, this presentation is going to be even more important for you to hear and understand the correct factual information about smart phones and children's development, mental health and wellbeing.    Telford Junior School Hall  - please use the Telford Avenue entrance - Tuesday 3rd Feb 6.30pm.  I hope you can join us (please note due to the content of the presentation no children are allowed). Please have a look at the Layer Up for Online Safety guide sent in your email which explains a simple approach to use safety settings to support your child when they are online.

PTA events

Please pop the PTA events in your diary click here to purchase pyjama party tickets and quiz tickets.

11th Feb 5pm - 6pm Year 1 PJ party £3.50 per child

12th Feb 5pm - 6pm Year 2 PJ party £3.50 per child

We also need volunteers to help run the PJ parties  - please email the PTA if you can help on pta.telfordinfants@gmail.com

20th March - Quiz night (adults only) £12.50pp inc fish and chips (6 adults max per team)

Sticky Questions

And finally, the sticky questions that your child will come home wearing today are;

Reception: Can you ever run out of thoughts?
Year 1: Can you love a brick?
Year 2: Is a grown-up ever fully grown up?

Please discuss your child’s question with them over the weekend. They are really helping with speaking and listening skills – thank you for all your support!

Have a lovely weekend.
