This week the children have been thinking about all things harvest with year 1 and year 2 visiting St Mary Magdalene's Church to take part in a harvest celebration. Thank you to the parents/carers that helped to walk the children to the church and look after them during this visit. The children sang and spoke beautifully and should be very proud of themselves. It is reception's turn today to perform their harvest songs to their parents/carers. This will be their first performance since starting school which we are really looking forward to.
Black History month
At school we aim to represent all cultures within our curriculum, the whole year round, but marking Black History month and making the children aware of this, is important. So far the children have had assemblies about Randolph Turner and Evelyn Dove. Next week they will learn about Rebecca Lee Crumpler.
Learning reviews
Next week is our last week in school before the half term break. Parent/carer learning reviews will be taking place, booking for these has now closed but your child's class teacher will be contacting you if you have not booked an appointment. When you arrive at school for your appointment you will be asked to show your booking on your phone - this new system is part of our tightened security arrangements in response to Martyn's Law. We respectfully ask that children are not brought to learning reviews, as it can be difficult for teachers and parents/carers to discuss the progress of the children when they are present.
PTA
Please read the flyer sent via email about the PTA wreath making event on 3rd December - this event is nearly sold out so please be quick if you want a place. The PTA are also holding an Autumnal cake sale after school on Friday.
OPAL
Further to the save the date flyer sent out last week, a letter has been sent to all year 1 and year 2 parents with details on how to book a space at our parent play event. We are hoping lots of parents are able to attend this event and find out how OPAL has transformed the children's lunchtimes. I would also like to remind parents/carers that due to insurance and risk assessments, children are not allowed to play with the OPAL resources (including the digging area on the back field) before or after school. We would be very grateful if you can support with this by guiding your children away from these resources.
Design and Technology day - reminder
The first day back after half term (3rd November) is going to be a special design and technology day for all children across school. We are looking for volunteers to help with a range of activities including cooking and sewing. If you are able to help please let your child's class teacher know. We also need lots of junk modelling including large boxes - please drop these with your child's class teacher. Thank you!
