Happy New Year and welcome back to a new term! I hope that you all had a lovely Christmas break enjoying time with loved ones.
This week we have welcomed the children back and settled into our familiar routines. The Telford team have returned raring to go with lots of exciting learning planned for the Spring term. Reception have started their very exciting topic 'When I grow up' with lots of parents booked in to come and talk to the children about their jobs - thank you so much if you are one of those parents, it really brings the topic alive for the children. Year 1 are learning about the moon landing and all things space and year 2 are learning about the natural world around them. Please check tapestry for more detailed information on what your child will be learning this half term and how you can support them.
Forest School
Thanks to the support of parents, we were overwhelmed with volunteers to get Forest Schools back up and running for year 1 and 2. I am delighted to say that Susie James will be supporting Mrs Smith our Forest School leader for the year 1 session on a Wednesday afternoon and Sophia Cheetham the year 2 session on a Thursday afternoon for the entire Spring term. It will be the turn of Primrose and Turquoise classes first - class teachers will be in touch with parents regarding clothing and dates.
Library books
We are pleased that the children are really enjoying the library and bringing home books to share with you. On occasion books go missing which we understand can happen. Please let your child's class teacher know if you do mislay, lose or damage a library book. We will then request that you replace the book so that our library continues to be well stocked. Please note children cannot borrow a new book until the previous one is returned. Thank you for your understanding.
Calendar dates
We have lots of exciting things happening this term and all dates can be found on ourcalendar.
Dates of note are our coffee session on 23rd January 2pm - until pick up where Warwickshire Family support and relationship team will be on hand to provide parenting advice and signposting (please see the flyer emailed).
I hope that lots of you can attend the Smart Phone Free Childhood parent talk on 3rd Feb 6.30pm at the Junior School - please ring fence this important session in your diaries (please see the flyer emailed). It is never too early to understand the impact of technology on our young children and how to manage this as they get older.

Technological and online safety
The Children's Commissoner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza has release a guide for parents on 'managing children's digital lives' which can be accessed for free here.
To you make informed decisions on which video and board games are suitable for children there is great site called The Family Gaming Database. This is a fantastic resource with a plethora of information for families and currently 3,485 video games and 197 board games already reviewed.
Cold weather and possible school closures
Please remember to send your child to school in a coat. Whilst it is really cold; hat, scarfs and gloves are useful as the children still go outside at play and lunchtime. Please ensure these items are named as gloves have a habit of going missing.
We always do our best to keep school open. However, if school does need to close due to adverse weather conditions such as snow, we will send a message to parents as early as possible via eschools. It will also be posted on the website. In the event of school closure, optional remote learning will be provided via tapestry.
