It has been a busy second week in school, with lots of visits from parents with jobs in the medical profession to our reception children who are learning about careers. Thank you to parents who have offered to do this, it is really appreciated. Please see Mrs Walsh if you have an interesting job that falls into the area of environmental, life style, transport or STEM - you do not have to be a reception parent!
Year 1 have been learning reading 'How to Catch a Star' by Oliver Jeffers and writing the opening to their version of the story. I have seen a number of very proud star writers who are really progressing with their handwriting, spelling and punctuation. Well done year 1!
I was able to catch part of a year 2 recorder lesson this week, and I was very impressed with the control and musicality that the children showed. It also made me miss my recorder lessons when I was in year 2 as a child!
We had the last of our bookable open mornings for prospective reception 2026 parents this week as the closing date to apply for a reception place is today. However, if you know anyone who has not done this yet, please tell them to contact admissions asap as the low birth rates mean we will have spare places.
OPAL
We have refreshed the list of OPAL items that are needed in school and this has been sent out with your email. In addition to those items, we are looking for a disused (but safe) rowing boat that we can place on the field for the children to have imaginative adventures in. If you have one of these or know of any one that many have one, please let us know!
Part of our OPAL journey is accreditation in March and we are hoping to demonstrate the journey of play improvement we have been on and be awarded an OPAL badge. In your email you have been sent a link to a short online parent OPAL questionnaire. I would be very grateful if you could take the time to complete this so we can present the outcome as evidence towards our accreditation.
Parking and road closures
Thank you for bearing with us whilst Kelvin Road has been closed, this was completely out of our control and we are aware this pushed traffic and parking down into other streets causing congestion.
You will have hopefully spotted our new zig zag sign, please continue to respect and follow this law by not stopping (even for 5 seconds whilst someone gets out of the car) on the yellow zig zags around school. Any cars that are continuing to do this are being reported to the parking enforcement team.
We have also had a number of complaints concerning parked cars sat with their engines running. Please remember, whilst this might keep you warm and cosy inside the car, outside it is polluting the environment and is linked to health conditions such as respiratory illnesses and lung and heart disease in children.
Please support us to keep your children safe.
Calendar dates
Please check the school calendar regularly for upcoming events.
Weather proof coats
Please ensure your child has a warm, waterproof coat and wellies in school. This supports us in ensuring the children are getting lots of fresh air and staying active whatever the weather. Please name everything!
