Welcome back to a new academic year at Telford Infant School. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer break and the opportunity to take life at a slower pace than normal. This week we have welcomed year 1 and 2 back into school and parent/child visits have taken place for our new reception children. The children have all settled back into school life really well, although I am sure they will be very tired tonight! On your email you will have received a letter from our PTA inviting you to the AGM on 25th September at 6pm and a welcome letter from our Chair of Governors.
Key Dates
Please make sure you regularly check the school calendar for important events coming up. These have been populated onto the calendar for the school year (further dates will be added as the year progresses where needed). Next week is our Welcome Evening for year 1 and 2 parents on Wednesday 10th September at 6pm. This is an opportunity to meet your child's new class teacher and hear about the topics and learning that will be covered this year. It is an important meeting and I urge you to attend, even if you have an older child who has already gone through that year group. The sessions will be in your child's classroom, providing you with an opportunity to see their learning environment. Please note this is a parent only event.
Playground extension
Hopefully you have noticed the newly developed area on the back playground. This is the result of a lot of hard work by Sandy our School Business Manager, our OPAL champions Michelle Smith and Ellie Martin, our caretaker Richard Broad, Cubbington Landscapes and funded by our amazing PTA. This area is being used as a quieter space for children to use the smaller OPAL resources such as role play, reading, construction and small world. Leaving the main playground for running, scooters, ball games and the field for a range of larger activities including digging. It also means there is ample space for all the children when the field cannot be used. Please read the OPAL wish list sent on email and support us if you can!
School keep clear scheme
You may have already seen in the local press that from 2nd September this week, Telford Infant School, and many other schools in our area, are part of the school keep clear scheme. This means Warwickshire County Council will begin active enforcement of parking restrictions around our school site as part of its ongoing commitment to improving road safety. Uniformed officers will patrol schools on rotation over the coming weeks to monitor compliance, engage with drivers, and raise awareness about the importance of safe and legal parking near schools. Vehicles found in violation of restrictions will be issued Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) of £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days. For continuity across all schools, all School Keep Clear Zig Zag lines are enforceable between 8am and 5pm - Monday to Friday. This fixed time window provides clarity for drivers, improving compliance and reducing risk. Where applicable, parking on double yellow lines, which indicate no waiting at any time, will also be enforced. Drivers will receive a PCN of £70, also reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days. You can also help to enforce this by reporting anyone breaking these restrictions by using this link. Whilst parking around school has greatly improved over the last year, I welcome this support from the council and urge you to continue to abide by the rules to ensure our children remain safe.
Support for parents of children with SEND
Warwickshire are running a number of parental support sessions that you may find useful. Please see your email for a poster about SEND help at the Gap Community Centre. Please click here to book on an evening bite sized workshop for parents/carers of autistic children on 9th September at 7pm online.
Emergency alert
On Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm, the government will carry out a national test of the Emergency Alerts system. This means most mobile phones and tablets across the UK will receive a test message, accompanied by a loud siren-like sound and vibration that will last for about 10 seconds.
The message you receive will clearly state that this is a test and that no action is required on your part. The alert will come through even if your device is set to silent mode, which is an important feature of the system designed to ensure people receive warnings in genuine emergencies.
