Head's message

I can't believe that we are half way through this academic year already!    And what an amazing time of learning and fun it has been.

This week has been action packed.  Year 1 and 2 children have taken part in fencing lessons which is part of our wider sport enrichment offer.  Please don't worry  - the children used foam fencing swords and have been taught the strict rules of engagement. However, I can’t guarantee that you won’t get shouts of ‘en garde’ from now on.

On Tuesday we celebrated Internet Safety Day, the children were treated to a morning assembly from Mr Docking who is a UX designer for video games who spoke to the children about keeping safe online. Later in the afternoon Mrs Livings who is an IT Architect explained what her job involves and how architects protect us from online scams which is the theme of this year's Internet Safety day.

And if that wasn't enough, all the children have taken part in bird week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week too.  Unfortunately, the Bird Man visit did not go ahead due to illness and will be rescheduled for next half term. This will give the children the opportunity to meet some amazing and unusual birds up close.

Our amazing PTA ran pyjama parties for year 1 and 2.  These were well attended and the children really enjoyed coming to school in their pyjama's and taking part in different activities with their friends.

Please look at our loving learning pages and tapestry to find out about this week’s super learning activities.

Spring 2 key dates

Friday 28th February we have the author Jeanne Willis (famous for many children's books including Tadpole's Promise and The Bog Baby) visiting the school.  She will work with all year groups to read one of her stories and create collages of teddies with a rosette going to the Smartest Bear, the Brightest Bear and the Cutest Bear in each year group. On that day we are inviting the children to bring in a small teddy bear from home - the teddy should be named (with your child's name and class)  but should not be too not precious as although we will try our best to look after them, we cannot be responsible for any damage or loss.

Thursday 6th March is World Book Day and we are inviting the children to come to school dressed as their favourite book character.  Your email contains ideas for low cost dressing up.  This is always a lovely day which celebrates the  joy of reading.  On this day you are invited to come into school and share a story with your child from 3pm onwards. Please don't worry if you cannot make this date and time, the children will not miss out and have story time with grown ups in school.

Friday 7th March is the PTA quiz – please get your team entries in to the PTA asap to secure your place.

Tuesday 18th March - Celebration of Learning will take place from 3pm to 3.20pm  - this is an opportunity to visit you child's classroom and look at their learning with them. No need to book, just turn up.

Friday 21st March - Red Nose Day - the school council will be deciding how they want to celebrate this day and raise money for this worthy cause. Further details will follow.

Monday 24th March our learning review booking system goes live – you will receive a letter about this nearer the time. The learning reviews will be Tuesday 8th April and Thursday 10th April 3.40pm – 6.10pm. Appointments are face to face in school with the option to request an online appointment if needed.

Thursday 27th March - PTA meeting in school from 6-7pm - all welcome.

Thursday 10th April reception and year 1 children will be attending an Easter service at St Mary Magdalene's Church.  We are looking for volunteers to help walk the children to and from church which is the only way parents can attend the event due to space.  If you are able to help please see your child's class teacher.

Library books

We are still missing lots of consent forms for your child to borrow books from the library - please return the slip asap so that your child can start using the library after half term.

 Milk

If you have not yet placed this term's school milk order there is still time to do so by visiting www.coolmilk.com, logging into your online account and selecting 'make a payment'. If you have not yet registered your child but wish to do so, please visit www.coolmilk.com/register. For any questions related to our milk scheme, please contact Cool Milk directly at www.coolmilk.com/contact'.

Half term activities

February half term week is Dinosaur Week at Warwickshire libraries and they have lots of activities happening.  They are also hosting Be A Food Superhero with cooking sessions. Taking place at libraries across the county and Market Hall Museum, children aged 4-11 years can dive into the world of superfoods, where they can play games, get crafty, and handle and taste different food items to discover how superfoods can help them be their best selves. Each one-hour long workshop is packed with fun and interactive activities to conquer food-themed challenges, and all children that attend the workshops will receive their very own goodie bag.

Children raising money for charity

I am pleased to share that a pupil who is part of the Telford family is donating 13 inches of their hair to the Princess Trust.  They have created a just giving page if you would like to support this fantastic effort!  If your child is doing anything amazing for charity please do share with us so we can promote and support them.

Don't forget the PTA hot chocolate and cake sale after school today.

Have a lovely half term break, school starts again on Monday 24th February.
