This week I have had the pleasure of reading with lots of year 1 children as they took the phonics screening check. I was delighted to see how many children were eager to show me their decoding and blending skills and clearly enjoy reading. Their resilience in tackling hard words was commendable! Thank you for supporting your child with their phonics and reading, a joint home school approach to promote a love of reading is really important for a child's success.
Year 2 were very excited as they left school this morning to go to Compton Verney. I am looking forward to finding out about their day on Monday. Next week Year 1 are visiting Hill Close Gardens, which is a new trip for this year. Please make sure you have provided permission for your child to attend and have paid via parent pay.
The children have enjoyed creating a special gift for the superhero in their life and I hope the recipients love receiving them on Sunday. A huge thank you to the PTA and Mrs Green for organising this opportunity.
Moving up day
Following my letter about classes for next year, a few parents have asked how meeting the new class teacher will work on moving up day (2nd July). This is very informal, once you collect your child from their usual classroom at 3.20pm you can walk around the outside of school to visit your child's new classroom - staff will be on hand if you are not sure where to go. Learning that they have done that day will be on display and the teacher will be there for an informal hello. Don't worry if you do not pick your child up at this time, we will be providing a meet the team flyer that your child will come home with that day so you have a photograph of all the teachers in the year group.
School crossing patrol
Our school crossing patrol support, Gladys, will not be on duty later this afternoon. Please take extra care when crossing Telford Avenue.
