Head’s message

Another wet and windy week in school but that has not stopped the children learning and enjoying all the different activities on offer.   This week is National Libraries week, and the children have been enjoying our new school library and Mrs Shippam, our English Leader, gave an assembly about libraries for the children.  We are very lucky to have access to two libraries in our local area, Lillington library and the main library in town.   If you and your family are not already members, why not pop to your nearest one this weekend and join for free.  Both libraries offer a range of fun activities and a great range of books and other reading materials to loan.

There are a number of key events happening in school over the next 2 weeks of this half term.  Please visit our calendar page to ensure you know what these are. Highlights for next week are photograph days on Tuesday and Wednesday and our Harvest Festival celebrations (see below).

Learning Reviews  - 22nd and 24th October

We value the opportunity to share your child's progress and next steps with you and I urge you to read the letter regarding learning reviews and get your slot booked asap. Reviews are taking place on the 22nd and 24th October.

Harvest Festival Celebrations
Year 1 and 2 are celebrating harvest festival at St Mary's Magdalene's Church on Thursday (only parents that are helping to walk children to and from church can attend due to space). Our reception celebration is on Friday at 2.45pm in school, parents are invited to this.
We will be collecting food donations between Monday 14th October and Wednesday 16th October. The most requested items are cup soup, rice pudding, longlife milk, toothpaste and laundry powder, though any dry and longlife items will be greatly appreciated. The food is taken to our harvest festival next Thursday and then given to Warwick District Food Bank. Please give donations to your child's class teacher. Many thanks in advance for your support.

First Aid

Following recent updated first aid training we are making some tweaks to systems in school to ensure we are in line with the most up to date advice.

First aid bands will always be put on children’s wrists – on occasion we were placing these on book bags of children who didn’t want to wear them.  This change will ensure all receiving adults – whether it be parents or club staff, know that your child has had first aid treatment.

We are no longer allowed to remove splinters, therefore, if this happens and your child is not in any discomfort, we will cover it with a plaster and inform you at pick up.  If your child is experiencing discomfort, we will call you to see if you wish to come into school and remove the splinter.

It is important that all children have had a tetanus injection which lasts 10 years.  Your child should have received this at 8, 12 and 16 weeks old as part of the 6 in 1 vaccine and at 3 years and 4 months old as part of the 4 in 1 pre-school booster.  If your child has an injury that breaks the skin you will need to take them for a tetanus injection if they have not had one.

If your child sustains a serious injury in school that we feel needs further medical attention, for example at a pharmacy, walk in centre or hospital, you will be provided with a form to sign to acknowledge you understand this advice.  If your child then receives further treatment outside of school you must inform us so we can complete the form and send it to the Local Authority.

Thank you for supporting us to care for your children.

Trips

A gentle reminder to pay for school trips via parent pay.  Only 60% of year 2 parents have paid for the upcoming trip to St John’s museum.   The reception trip to Warwick Arts Centre can be paid for from today.

Contributions are voluntary, but with squeezed budgets we do rely on parents to support our external learning experiences.  If you are unable to make this payment, please speak to myself or a member of the office team so that financial assistance can be arranged.  Children in receipt of pupil premium are automatically covered by the pupil premium grant.

Vacancies

We currently have vacancies in school for  SEND Teaching Assistants and Midday Supervisors. Details can be found here.   Please share this information with anyone you think may be interested.

And finally, our lost property is already building up.  This is always available for you to come and look through and specifically outside our main entrance on a Friday.

Have a lovely weekend
