Physical Education

Mrs Michelle Smith

PE Subject Leader

We are exceptionally proud of our PE provision at
Telford Infant School.
We were first awarded the afPE Quality Mark for Physical Education & Sport In May 2016.
On 12th December 2019, we were again awarded the Quality Mark for a further three years.

Physical Education is one of the foundation subjects of the National Curriculum and all staff at Telford Infant School recognise its importance in education and lifestyle.

We offer a wide range of sports clubs after school hours.  The activities are run by external providers and are run on our school site. After school sports clubs currently include:
Fit 2 Dance, Multi Sports, Tennis and Football.

Each year in the Summer term we hold our Sports Day with sporting activities taking place for all children on the school field.  Families are welcome to join the children and follow their progress with each activity.

At Telford Infant School we love to dance!
Each May Year 2 children are offered the opportunity to learn Maypole dancing. We also offer Chinese Dragon dancing which we perform at Chinese New Year.
Liz England runs Fit2Dance after school Club but often comes in during the day to teach us new dances. She has also choreographed dances for our productions. Last summer she taught a group of Year 2 children a river dance for the Leavers’ Assembly. There’s always lots of fun when Liz is in school!
One of the UK’s leading dance theatre companies Motionhouse recently worked with our school to develop both the children’s and adults’ skills in dance.

Each year in June we host the Leamington North Cluster Schools Year 2 Football Tournament.
Congratulations to Telford Infant School Football Team who rose to victory winning the most recent  Leamington North Tournament. All of our players demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and fantastic skills whilst playing teams from across our cluster.

All children attend a weekly Celebration Assembly to which they are encouraged to bring certificates, medals, rosettes, badges etc for achievement in sport outside school. Examples include karate, horse riding, swimming and skiing.

Our termly Sports Newsletter informs parents of our PE curriculum and achievements and we have a dedicated Sports Display board that celebrates effort and achievement in PE.
